Shiloh Vineyard in Wakeeney, KS

Shiloh Vineyard and Winery is a small family-owned winery, located in the plains of western Kansas. Founded in 2008 by owners, Kirk and Treva Johnston, they bring their story to life through their exquisite wines and breathtaking venue.

The Kearny County Farmers Market reached out to Treva Johnston to order some wine for our local, subscription crate program. We took advantage of the opportunity and enjoyed an evening of wine-tasting with Treva, and a tour of the property from Kirk. The experience felt like something you would have to take a flight to see and feel. It was classy, but casual. The wines were elegant, varied, and delectable.

They had dry reds, whites, semi-sweet wine, fruit wines, sweet wines, and dessert wines. For only $8, you can taste 6 different kinds and are sure to find a bottle that you love. Or you can do a larger size pour of 4 different wines in their $12 flight package. I recommend grabbing a cheese and sausage plate while you enjoy a tasting or flight. Prices range from $5-12/glass from $15-45/bottle.

A conventional farm operation, The Johnstons decided to plant some grape vines and fruit trees and learn how to make their own wine not more than a decade ago. Kirk told us that before Prohibition, Kansas was a prime region for growing grapes and making wine. Over the last ten years their business has exploded, and so has the depth of their knowledge of making wine.

They host special events, weddings, classes, and are open for wine tasting any afternoon until 6pm, Tuesday-Sunday. There is both indoor, and outdoor seating and the experience is well worth the drive. Find out more at their website https://shilohvineyard.com/
